Paperclips

Hello everyone!

For the past couple of days, I have been playing a game called Paperclips. Here is the link: http://www.decisionproblem.com/paperclips/index2.html

It appears to be a simple text based, web browser game about making paperclips. Supposedly if you play long enough, it goes beyond that into the realm of Artificial Intelligence. My teacher gave us articles and reviews to read before we started. I skimmed them, but I got straight to clicking.

This is a screenshot of when I first began. At the very beginning, you have to manually make paperclips, by clicking that top button. Soon enough you're able to buy AutoClippers, which automatically make clips without you having to physically do it. There weren't many options, and I was living nickel to nickel, trying to balance paying for wire and auto clippers. I also had to manage the price per clip, which would directly influence the public demand. If I made the price too high, the demand would drop. If I made the price too low, then I would not have any inventory, and I wouldn't be making the most per clip that I could. Depending on the market, I had to find a happy medium of the price.

As the game progressed, I was a bit more free with money, and a couple of features were added. WireBuyer was added, which automatically buys more inches of wire when you run out, given that you have the funds to cover it. Also, computational resources were added (which I don't really understand how they work still), but somewhere on some article I read that memory was more important in the early stages. Therefore, whenever the Processes/Memory buttons were clickable, I increased Memory. Projects were also introduced (don't really understand these either), but basically with a certain number of Operations, you're able to work on things that improve your company. You get operations with every paperclip made (I think)

Below is my most current screen. Quantum Computing, Investments, and Strategic Modeling were added, along with marketing and investment levels. Quantum Computing gives you an additional way to increase your Operations. Whenever there are boxes (preferably dark boxes), if you hit 'compute' a lot, then it will display the number of additional operations you're doing. Eventually, you'll want to stop clicking when it displays negative numbers. With the investments, I've kept it on low risk and deposited whatever funds I had into it, and withdrew it whenever I needed money. It increases by something, so I think it's worth it. (I don't know how it actually works). For the modeling (which I also don't understand), you basically win a currency named Yomi from running a game against the computer. Certain projects let you gain more strategies, but I just wing it every time. A new tournament costs a certain number of operations.

Ever since the beginning, I've been just winging it. Clicking random things, and just doing whatever makes logical sense. There are no actual instructions, so everything is a trial and error. I am close to 100 Trust, which I think is the next "stage". SO.... clearly my random clicking has gotten me somewhere.
